With its third new owner in as many years (and a new one for 2008), the tragic story of the once-glorious Jordan team continues to become, well, less than glorious.
After the Russian/Canadian owners decided this F1 lark was more trouble than it was worth, Dutch supercar manufacturers Spyker bought up the team and hoped to return the team to its race-winning, previous incarnation’s form.
Did they? No. They did manage to score one more point than in 2006, giving them a total of one, but on the way they did get a fastest practice lap in a drying Monaco and led a race in the wet Nurburgring by gambling on extreme wet tyres and starting from the pit lane.
And that was their season. New driver Sutil mildly impressed by being quick and erratic and ended Albers’s career by the middle of the year. Replacements Winkelhock and Yamamoto didn’t exactly shine and haven’t been signed up for next year.
Next year, with new team owners and a new name - Force India F1 - competition is fierce for the second race seat. Winners Ralf Schumacher and Fisichella are in the running along with ex-Red Bullers Liuzzi and Klien.
As ever, it’s really difficult to come up with interesting stuff to say about the second-least exciting team on the grid.
