heroes, villains and clowns: bahrain

A far more “normal” race this time, with no safety cars, rain and just the one retirement. The result was more familiar with a win for Button and Brawn, but also surprising with their relative lack of success in qualifying. Toyota got a record 1-2 on the grid but faded during the race and - shock of horrors - Ferrari scored some points to get into ninth place in the championship.

Heroes

Button makes it three out of four race wins and has a commanding lead in the championship. Toyota has the performance and a win must be round the corner, but it must be soon until McLaren and Renault catch up.

Villains

The only driver to put a foot wrong was Force India’s Adrian Sutil who blocked Webber in qualifying. It was a foolish move and cost him three places on the grid, but he did at least go in person to apologise to the Red Bull driver.

Clowns

BMW’s terrible pace has made their drivers complain, and rightly so. They finished plumb last and with so many completing the race that really means something.
