Not the most dramatic of races, with only a handful of close challenges while Button romped off to make it six wins out of seven in 2009 ahead of Webber and Vettel. Brawn GP’s Barichello fluffed the start and had a couple of tangles on the way to retirement while the Ferrari’s failed to capitalise on a promising grid position.
Nelson Piquet gave us the best overtaking move of the race, albeit for 16th place, with a great battle with Lewis “monkey at the back” Hamilton. Rosberg took advantage of the Ferrari’s poor pace to finish fifth.
David Coulthard gets a special mention for not putting up with Eddie Jordan’s constant stream of crap.
The only person who fits here this time is Barichello. After a dreadful start, he desperately tried moves on Kovalainen and Sutil before damaging his front wing and eventually retiring with a gearbox problem.
McLaren’s starting positions of 14th and 16th were based purely on pace and not any errors from the drivers. Ferrari are slowly making progress (though they disappointed here), but the lads from Woking are failing to go anywhere - certainly not qualifying 3. Vettel failed to benefit from a three-stop strategy and dropped from pole to third.
