the silly season goes a bit sad

A quick recap:

Brawn GP has been bought up by Mercedes to create Mercedes-Benz GP.

Button has signed up for McLaren for the next few years. F1’s least loyal driver (he had to pay his way out of a Williams contract after changing his mind) has denied Ross Brawn the honour of having numbers 1 and 2 on his (well, Daimler’s) cars in 2010 and put his own reputation under threat by being team-mates with second-best driver Lewis Hamilton.

Second best? Surely you mean third best.

This is the more disappointing news: Kimi Raikkonen, who previously said his only option was a McLaren drive, is now left with no team big enough to pay his ample pay demands and will sit out next year. The mumbling, ice-cream-eating, snoozing Spa-meister may spend his gap year rallying, but his exit leaves F1 short of another driver who isn’t of the Hamilton/Rosberg PR-groomed-to-hell mould and one who, on his day, is a joy to watch on track.
